research 2013

co+labo spring 2013 research session at Meme Meadows, 6-19 May

Draft agenda

This agenda sets the basic details for the Barn House fieldwork spring session, and defines minimal work and outcomes. The fieldwork team will also recommend the improvement of the agenda for the forthcoming, summer session.
All observations and data will be multiscale – focusing (whenever appropriate) at interactive scales of Taiki-cho, Meme Meadows, the Barn House paddock and the Barn House itself (both spaces for humans and spaces for horses, and interactions between them). A special emphasis will be at inside-outside, and spaces for humans - spaces for horses interface and interactions.
Detailed composition, agenda, work-plan, individual contributions and lengths of stay for each fieldwork team will be decided in advance.
The team will organize and conduct structured video and audio-recordings.

1. spring session:

result: a detailed record and list of actions; deadline …
establishment of the Barn House visitors’ book of impressions, with space for:
·       general impressions and comments
·       contact details (e-mail), if willing to contribute to research
·       brief questionnaire for collection of researchable data across the scales and issues
the Barn House visitors’ book will be tested with locals and Harvard students/staff
result:     the Barn House visitors’ book of impression

quantitative data collection and measurements:
seasonal climatis specificities

pasture/food for horses evaluation
other (identified in collaboration with Meme Meadows staff)
results: detailed log-book, documentation (the Barn House Catalogue) + weekly summaries individually posted on the blog
                                 observations and qualitative data collection:
individual co+labo fieldwork journals (structured observations and
recordings across the four scales)
journals should be done in an agreed format, with defined core contents,
ensuring minimal researchable response
selected parts of the journals should be posted on the blog
identification of, and interviews and discussions with key Meme  Meadows
staff (structured and unstructured interviews, recorded)
                                observations will include:
bioclimatic observations – plants, lifestyles etc. in relation to climatic condition, awareness of other sensorial experiences – smells, sounds, tactile impressions
emphasis on both spaces and activities, human, horses (etc.?)
results:   the co+labo Barn House Catalogue with all recordings
conceptual design:
co+labo Barn House infographics
charcoal shelves
spaces for humans/spaces for horses improvements
possible improvements of and integration in the broader context
